HMT is in the midst of a series of strong winter storms that are impacting California. While these storms have brought high winds and steady rain throughout the region, and heavy snows to the Sierra Mountains, they are not expected to produce a serious flood threat in Northern California. Whether these storms will have a significant impact on the region's drought remains to be seen. However, the storms are expected to continue through the rest of this week, and we anticipate the active period to continue in the near future. These weather systems do provide HMT scientists with a significant opportunity to document and study their behavior with an extensive ground-based network, and to test out new modeling capabilities.
