Launch of Atmospheric River Information Web Page

One of the advances fostered by HMT-West has been the observation and analysis of atmospheric rivers and exploration of their potential use in forecasting and decision support services. NOAA/PSD has led the development of a general-purpose Atmospheric River Information Web Page to foster communication of scientific findings and emerging applications regarding this concept. In addition to a brief description of the phenomenon and its recent applications, the web page hosts a list of peer-reviewed publications, inclusive of articles published by scientists at NOAA/PSD’s Water Cycle Branch, as well as from any other organization or authors. A "top ten" list of atmospheric rivers that have struck the west coast is another highlight (only events that have been described in the peer-reviewed literature are included), as is a set of related online resources such as briefings used in recent NWS forecaster training sessions.
