HMT Presentation at AGU Annual Fall Meeting

January 28, 2014

HMT research was the subject of a presentation at the American Geophysical Union 2013 Fall Meeting held in San Francisco December 8-13, 2013. Dr. Rob Cifelli of NOAA's Earth System Research Laboratory (ESRL) in Boulder gave an invited talk titled "Uncertainty Analysis of Radar and Gauge Rainfall Estimates in the Russian River Basin".

The talk provided an overview of quantitative precipitation estimation (QPE) activities in the Russian River watershed, including assessment of the impact of commercial T.V. radar data for QPE and the performance of this methodology compared to rain gauge data. The talk was part of a Hydrology session "Utilizing Precipitation Data Sets and Quantifying Associated Uncertainties in Hydrometeorological and Climate Impact Applications". This work is supported by HMT and the Sonoma County Water Agency and is a collaborative effort between NOAA ESRL, NSSL, and OHD, as well as NOAA Cooperative Institutes CIRES and CIRA.
