Jessica Lundquist Awarded AGU 2008 Cryosphere Young Investigator Award

Congratulations to HMT contributor, Dr. Jessica Lundquist, who was awarded the AGU 2008 Cryosphere Young Investigator Award for her innovative contributions to cryospheric research at the Polar Reception of the AGU Fall Meeting.

Growing up in Sacramento, CA contributed to JessicaŐs initial interest in the American River Basin and hydrological science. She remembers being afraid that Folsom Reservoir would overtop in the 1980s due to flooding on the American River. In pursuit of these interests, Jessica earned a Ph.D. from Scripps Institution of Oceanography in 2004 with a thesis entitled, "The pulse of the mountains: Diurnal cycles in western streamflow," focused on snow and hydroclimatology. Shortly thereafter she moved to Boulder, CO where she began working with the NOAA team for the implementation of HMT-West as a postdoctoral fellow. She helped with the initial field deployment in summer 2005 and has been adding additional sensors to the basin every year since.

Jessica is currently an assistant professor of hydrology and hydroclimatology at the University of Washington, and is interested in how a better understanding of spatial patterns of meteorology in the mountains can help improve simulations of mountain hydrology.
