PSD Hollings Scholarship Intern Elizabeth Ellis Wows Audiences with Her Final Presentation

Elizabeth Ellis, a senior undergraduate in the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences at The Pennsylvania State University interned this summer with Dr. Allen White in the NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory's Physical Sciences Division (PSD). She worked on rainfall process partitioning analysis and developed a tool to analyze horizontal variability of the snow level, two research areas conducted under the auspices of HMT. As part of the NOAA Hollings Scholarship Program, students choose a NOAA facility where they conduct a summer internship after their junior year. Elizabeth knew right away that she wanted to end up in a weather research laboratory, and when she discovered there was one in Boulder, it was a natural fit.

Last week, Elizabeth gave her final presentation on the work she accomplished to an audience of other interns and NOAA headquarters folks in Silver Spring. There were awards given for the best oral and poster presentations given in each section of the final presentations. Elizabeth's oral presentation, entitled "Data Analysis and Quality Control for NOAA's Hydrometeorological Testbed Program," received first prize and a cash award of $500. Congratulations to Elizabeth for a job well done and a wish of continuing success in her educational endeavor and future career.
