HMT-Southeast Moves Forward with Pilot Study and Updated
Science Plan

HMT will launch a pilot study ("HMT-SEPS") in western North Carolina in spring 2013. As planning ramps up ahead of instrument deployment, the Science Plan for the HMT-SEPS project is being updated accordingly. The latest document reflects the most recent changes in HMT-SEPS planning, as well as overall project updates.

Much of the updated material highlights the new goals and capabilities made possible by support from and collaboration with the NASA Global Precipitation Measurement (GPM) mission, as well as collaborators from within the region and other NOAA centers. The latest version of this document also outlines a more streamlined and focused approach to complementary research designed to identify and investigate the largest forecast challenges for heavy precipitation in the region. The science plan will likely remain a dynamic document to allow for continual growth and modifcation, but the latest version will be routinely updated and made available through the HMT-SEP web page.

On June 20, 2012, a webinar summarizing progress on HMT-Southeast was held for key National Weather Service offices as well as other potential regional partners within NOAA, NASA, and the university environment. An email update summarizing this same information was also sent to the larger HMT-SE community. Slides adapted from this update are available for download.
