HMT coordinators Lisa Darby and Allen White from the Earth System Research Laboratory's Physical Sciences Division (PSD), and Jim Nelson from the NOAA/NCEP Weather Prediction Center (WPC) joined other attendees at the 8th Annual Testbed and Proving Ground Workshop held April 25-26 at the National Weather Service (NWS) Training Center and Aviation Weather Center in Kansas City, Missouri. In the HMT overview presentation, Lisa highlighted progress on the five Office of Weather and Air Quality-funded HMT research and transition projects, and Jim followed with summaries and findings from the most recent HMT Flash Flood and Intense Rainfall and Winter Weather experiments conducted at WPC. During the science theme presentations, Ben Albright (WPC) gave an HMT presentation on tools and verification methods for probabilistic snowfall forecasts.

During the meeting, attendees had opportunities to take a tour of the Operations Proving Ground hosted at the NWS National Training Center, and to learn more about NOAA's Virtual Laboratory (VLab).

At the executive session meeting following the workshop, testbed leads elected a new Testbed Coordinating Committee chairperson, Peter Stone, line office focal point from the National Ocean Service; discussed the workshop format; selected candidate sites for next year's workshop; and solicited volunteers to work on the planning and implementation of that workshop.
